Regina Community Basketball Association Spring Classic June 3/4

posted Apr 27, 2017, 1:26 AM by Mike Stone   [ updated Apr 27, 2017, 1:27 AM ]

The Regina Community Basketball Association is proud to be hosting our 4th Annual 3on3 Spring Classic on June 3rd and 4th at the University of Regina. 3on3 tournaments are a great way for young players to get a chance to work on both offensive and defensive skills because of the quick pace of the game and the smaller amount of players. This year we have more than 47 teams currently registered, and would like to extend an invitation to teams from around the province to participate.

Tournament Details:

Cost: $100 per team

Date: Saturday June 3rd and Sunday June 4th

Location: University of Regina
Registration Deadline: May 14th

Roster Size: 4-6 players

Guaranteed Game Minimum: 4 games

Divisions: Split into boys and girls divisions by grade

Grade 5

Grade 6

Grade 7/8

The RCBA really strives to make this tournaments a first class event, and to accomplish that we offer a number of secondary fun competitions throughout the day that players can enter for no charge with the opportunity for great prizes. We are also planning on having some feature special games throughout the day. Here is a quick list of what we are looking to offer this year.

Coaches 3on3 Game

Any players registered to the Sunday tournament will also have the opportunity to register to attend clinics offered by the University of Regina on the morning of Saturday June 3rd. The boys clinic will be run by the U of R Cougar Men’s Basketball Team, and the girls clinic will be run U17 U of R PEBL Girls Team led by U of R Women’s Basketball Team coaches. SLAM Mission

Our mission is to help young athletes to play basketball at a competitive level. This is accomplished by providing a foundation in the many individual skills required to be a strong basketball player. Equally important, our coaches teach their players to use these skills effectively as a team.
Of utmost importance in achieving our mission for our youth members is that we focus on the development of our youth members as individuals and as a team.

The Saskatoon Slam Basketball program emphasizes three core principles - teamwork, character development, and personal fitness - to achieve the mission.

Coaches will be Greg Jockims, Russ Dawson and Brad Schoenfeld. The team will play in 2-3 local tournaments and play in 1out-of-town tournament.

Carrie Neufeld Celebration of life

posted Jan 20, 2017, 7:17 AM by Rick Wingate

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of one of our founding Slam parents. Carrie was an inspiration to us all. Her and her husband Scott started with Slam in 2008 with our first boy's team and their son Flinn. Foster joined Slam as well and Scott continues to coach his daughter Sloane today. Always dedicated to the kids and the sport of basketball Carrie was always there with a glass of red and a caring comment.

Celebration of life at Amigos Sat 21 January 4 to 8pm

 NEUFELD, Carrie
A theft took place. A mother from a child. Three to be precise. We are not left to mourn, as that would be to acquiesce to the darkness of death. We choose to aspire to her tenacity and strength. To live long, to share, to create. To exist despite the spectre of hopelessness. We chose to be inspired by her gift of art, of craft, of right and wrong. We choose to move forward. Like a deft hammer blow on a flake of softened metal, we are the creation of her art. A mother like no other. We will miss you, and forever reminisce you. Carrie Neufeld passed away on December 18, 2016, at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband Scott, her children, Foster, Flinn and Sloane, her siblings, Eric Neufeld (Char Warkentin, and Brahm (Robyn Reist), David, Jamie), Denise Bakken (Kevin, and Brooke, Judd, Drew), Patricia Ward (Darryl, and Amber (Jeremy Cleek)), Mary Neufeld (David Evans), her parents-in-law, Jean and Norm Herriot, sisters-in-law Jackie Kerby ( Bill, and Graeme, Justin, Mitchell, Taylor and Brandon), and Lisa Grajczyk (Peter, and Jonah and Julian), brother-in-law Trevor (Karen and Kate, Jon, Sage and Maia), as well as many special friends. She was predeceased by her mother Irene in 1992 and her father Ernest in 2010. Carrie was born December 23, 1964 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, where she attended Assiniboia School, Weyburn Junior High, and Weyburn Comprehensive. She attended the University of Saskatchewan for a year, at which time she met Scott Herriot, her partner for more than 30 years. She worked at the University of Saskatchewan Bookstore for more than 25 years, most recently as an assistant manager. The couple had three children, Foster, Flinn and Sloane, who attended Aden Bowman Collegiate. All played basketball and volleyball, and Scott and Carrie attended nearly every game they played. Carrie found much in everyday life to celebrate, with a special focus on family. She decorated the family home lovingly with beautiful art, and carefully tended her yard and garden, keeping those spaces warm and welcoming to family, friends, and co-workers, for birthdays, holidays and life's other special occasions. We will always remember her meticulously organized birthday parties, her legendary scavenger hunts at Christmas and Easter, and her sense of humour. An artist herself, she preserved many of these special moments with her camera. Carrie was also an expert seamstress and spent much time at sewing clothing, knitting. She also enjoyed painting and cardmaking, along with books, music and movies. Leonard Cohen was a favourite musician, and The Art of Racing in the Rain, a favourite story. And every day, she took Izzy and Kobe for their walk. The family would like to thank everybody who came to celebrate Carrie's birthday at St. Paul's, and who brought food and comfort to the ward, and St. Paul's warm-hearted and accommodating staff. Great thanks to Dr. Nave. Her last week was full of the things she loved: family, friends, relatives, dogs, a Christmas gift opening, and getting dressed up for a big birthday party. The family also wishes to acknowledge the staff of Nordon Drugs, the true sisters of mercy. Compassion, concern and commitment are their names. Thank you, ladies. At Carrie's request, there will be no funeral service. Details on a wake/ celebration will follow. Condolences may be left at Arrangements are entrusted to the PRAIRIE VIEW CHAPEL, 306-242-7248.
